Terroir
Terroir is a French term that is used to describe "a taste of place". Terroir includes all of the factors of climate and geography that give natural products their unique flavor and qualities. These factors include weather conditions, soil type, micro-climate and cultivation practices. At its core, the concept of terroir assumes that all of these factors lend a unique flavor profile that can only be achieved through that specific combination of factors at that given time.
Each bottle of wine is crafted with local honey that is produced without chemicals or treatment. We work with both small and large beekeepers as well as our own hives to produce the finest mead available. Our fruit mead contains fruit from our own orchard or from other local small scale producers. Come experience the tastes of Groton, VT.
Vermont Wine
Vermont has a steadily growing wine industry. The first vines were planted in 1996 in South Hero, VT, and the industry has continued to blossom from there. Vermont now hosts over 15 wineries which have recently organized under the Vermont Grape and Wine Council. Here you can find some great producers of varietal grape wines, like Shelburne Vineyard or you may try some of our more unique wines like Eden Ice Cider.
Vermont Food
No bottle of wine is complete without a great dinner to accompany it. Vermont's localvore tradition gives every foodie, aficionado and gourmand a mouth-watering palette of tastes and flavors to pair a bottle of mead with a cheese course or a full menu dinner. Artesano is a member of the Vermont Fresh Network and is committed to working with local restaurants such as Groton's own Brown's Market Bistro. We also support the Agency of Agriculture's buy local program.
